My boyfriend and I will be moving sometime within the next year or 2 from Pennsylvania to Seattle, WA. I am highly conserned with the long move for both of my chins, A.i. and Killer. what is the most effictive way as to move them. i would hate to leave them behind, and that is what I'm afraid of the most. Any advice would be great! i would like to keep it short and simple for their sakes. but if I have to drive, then so be it. I'm quite skeptical about flying them out. so like i said before any advice is helpful. thanks

The most effective way would probably be flying, but I am skeptical of that as well. While driving across the entire country isn't ideal, you would at least be able to be with your chins. You could get a collapsible cage and stop off at a motel if you needed to (unless you have super human powers that enabled you top drive for days) so the chins could move around and not be cooped up the whole time. Maybe look into trains? They might be promising.

I've never relocated that far, so I can't offer personal experience but unless I got rave reviews for a specific air line, I would hesitate to do that. Hopefully someone who has done this can give you better advice.

Chins travel fine by car, just make sure you have them is a carrier, the carrier is out of the sunshine, good reliable car with air conditioning, and travel cage for hotel stays. Offer water at stops but most chins sleep the day away during car rides. Plane travel can happen also during the cool season shipped in the luggage department or for a extra fee they can travel in the cabin, at least last time I checked.

i recall seeing a thread on another forum i belong to about how Amtrak doesn't allow animals on the trains.

i personally would drive, but i love road trips :))

Maybe adjust your drive time to their sleep pattern? Of course take breaks to check on them and give food and water. Crank up the ac. Also plan your drive, book the hotel ahead of time and check with pet policy.

Ronda on here has done a lot of traveling with chinchillas long distance, and has also flown chinchillas to customers, I'd check with her. I personally have had some chinchillas flown in once from Ohio, and they did great, but if you have just 2 chins, and if your car has AC if it's needed I think you could travel during the day, get a pet friendly hotel at night, and give them some run around time. Good luck in your trip, you will almost be like a neighbor! I'm just on the opposite side of Washington state.

Trains do not let chinchillas on. Some let dogs and cats. But I was looking into a train when I went to get my girls. I drove 8 hours there and back. A train would have been Ideal but oh well. I would say driving would be fine. Air planes can stress them out. Just make sure when you stop to take a break you check on them and give them some lovens.
