Is it necessary to move a male chin after the female gives birth? I have asked a couple breeders and seems like everyone does it a different way. Some move the male, some the female and some don't move either.

Personally I move the male to a separate cage, next to the female of possible but not necessary. Otherwise you are likely to get a breedback and that can ne hard on the female. Some don't care about that or potential health issues so they may leave the male in.

I really don't think that it matters which one you move. Everyone has their own routine. When I pair breed I keep them in a Critter/babyproof Ferret Nation so I'll take mom out and put her in a run cage since it is smaller and safer...

If I need to move an animal. I like to move the male whenever possible so as to cause as little disruption as possible to the female that just littered. Littering and nursing kits is stressful enough as it is without further disruption.

Personally this is one of the reasons I like using runs for breeding since I typically do not need to move anyone. Once pregnancy is established I can just close the male out of the females cage but he can still run over top so they can visit and stay familiar with each other.

Polygamy, colony and pair breeding each have their pluses and minuses.

A lot of large breeders build and sell them. I know ryerson sells them but I'm sure there are many others as well. You can build them. I breed with runs and some in colonies. I just sepporate the male when a female gives birth. They adjust great.
