I searched this forum and online but couldn't find an answer. I notice my chin, Chloe swipes at her mouth regularly. She has ever since I got her 4 months ago. I have posted a couple threads about my fear of her having teeth issues, but she hasn't showed anything that would freak out anyone but a neurotic paranoid person like me. Everything is normal with her but the mouth swiping. I've only heard of it in reference to malo symptoms. Do chins swipe their mouths normally?

When she's doing it, it isn't always in the middle of eating or mid-pellet (actually she's never done it mid-pellet) and she doesn't run away after. It seems pretty random, although I can say she does it more often when she's grooming. It looks like a nose swipe, just lower. I tried to search for videos of it since I want to know if there are different types of mouth swipes and what they look like. I know she isn't pawing at her mouth because she did that twice and it freaked me out. I believe she had food stuck in her mouth because she never did it again and the vet checked her teeth the day after (no x-rays, but looked inside and felt around). That was about 3 weeks ago.

So can someone tell me what is up with this mouth swiping business??? Thank you.

It is probably just a nose wipe. Chins usually do them a lot anyway. Like having an itchy face. :D I have tons of pics with chins in Mid nose wipe

Could she be cleaning her whiskers??? They usually take both front paws and rub them furiously around their nose and mouth and then end with pulling their whiskers with their paws the entire length as if to say, "Mmmmm...clean whiskers!!!"

It's VERY cute!!! :hearts:

I've seen her cleaning her whiskers and although it's awesome to see, it's not that I'm talking about. I would have thought it was a nose swipe but she never actually touches her nose during it. It's weird. Thank you for the quick responses though.

Did she have a rosehip. sometimes the inside of the rosehip has this fuzz that makes them whip their little nose.

No, she didn't eat a rosehip she hates that fuzzy stuff in the center, I know what you're talking about. When I get batteries in my camera I'll point it out in a video or something.

I will tell you from my experience. Mei had malo, so I can give a bit of advice. Personally, I think you're worrying for nothing.

You'll know when something is wrong. It won't just be a mouth swipe, normally there's other signs in conjunction with that.

Like for Mei it was constantly wiping at her mouth even with her back feet. She didn't eat much, and would not take treats which was not like her. She would take the treat, try to take a bite and then just abruptly drop it. She also started getting squinty eyed and watery. She also had a bit of a dried wet appearance on her chin and paws from the drool.

You'll know. Trust me. It's like a "something is just not right" they don't look happy or healthy. If you notice her taking treats fine and chewing twigs and otherwise acting happy and normal I would not worry about it.
