Ok, long time reader, first time poster. We got Chloe about a year ago and in the end we ended getting her and her male kit Kawaii because she got pregnant after the arrangement so the previous owner let us keep the kit which we appreciated, cause who doesn't want more cuteness? Well the kit was born before we got them, and no one told us when it was born, so we didn't know how old it was and we didn't separate them in time and mom got pregnant again. The new male kit Valentino was born on Valentine's Day and is doing wonderful. Our current setup is a FN two story with Chloe and Valentino together and Kawaii by himself.

My question is: How do we go about separating Chloe and Valentino, and introducing Valentino and Kawaii? I've read a lot of threads on introducing 2 chins, but I was wondering if them being related helped with the process, or if the floor piece being thin in the FN cage that they can still smell each other through made any difference either. I am hoping to avoid another kit, but not having any issues introducing the 2 boys.

Depending on size, many breeders ween males by eight weeks and put them in a cage with another male to make sure they can be self sufficient. You could try placing your baby with your male after eight weeks but watch them closely and make sure they aren't fighting or being aggressive. It could be that they'll automatically accept each other. If not, they need to be separated. You can always try reintroducing but there is no guarantee that they will ever get along. You may end up having three separate cages for your chins though.

Good luck!!

As was already stated, separate at 8 weeks. I personally like the cage within a cage technique for introductions. Just sticking them together may or may not work, but its worth trying once and monitoring them closely. If it doesn't go well then try the cage with a cage trick and see if you get better results. Also be absolutely sure that the new baby is definitely a boy. That'd be terrible if the son got the mother pregnant and then the son/father got an already inbred sister/daughter pregnant. Thinking about that potential family tree makes my head hurt.

I would get the third add-on unit to your FN just in case you need to seperate everyone. :-/

Chances are the 2 males will get along fine. Newly weaned kits want companionship and older males often take a fatherly role.

Just remove the kit from mom when it's time. No gradual separation process. It's easier on both of them to just remove the kit. Often moms are a bit happy to see pesky kits leave.

For introduction I would put a hidey house for each chin on the bottom level of the cage. Then put a dust bath in the cage. Then the kit. The dust bath is a distraction. Do it in the morning and watch them all day.

Hope this helps
