I was shocked when I read this. Some people are becoming far too consumed with FB games.

"A Florida woman admitted shaking her 3-month-old baby to death after the little boy's crying distracted her from playing a wildly popular Facebook game.

Alexandra Tobias, 22, told cops she was playing FarmVille and her baby, Dylan Lee Edmondson, wouldn't stop crying.

According to the Florida Times-Union, she confessed to shaking the baby, smoking a cigarette to calm down and then shaking the baby again. The baby may have hit his head during the January incident.

Tobias pleaded guilty on Wednesday.

The young mom called paramedics after he stopped breathing. He was taken to a hospital with head injuries and a broken leg, The Times-Union reported. Doctors said the infant died from "abusive head trauma."

Tobias initially told police the child hit his head and stopped breathing after a dog knocked him off a couch, Jacksonville television station WJXT reported.

She later confessed to losing her temper while trying to concentrate on the game.

"It was enough to apparently put her over the edge," said Lt. Larry Schmitt of the Jacksonville sheriff's office.

FarmVille is a simulation game created by Zynga, a San Francisco-based company that uses Facebook and other social networks to distribute its games.

In the game, users act as virtual farmers, harvesting crops and raising cattle. The FarmVille Facebook page says the game has nearly 60 million active users.

Tobias faces at least 25 years in prison. She is scheduled to be sentenced in December."

I guess her addiction to FB and Farmville will be tamed with 25 years of jailtime coming her way. How incredibly sad...a game was more important than the well-being of her own child...

Folks have been blaming video games for years for things when in reality it's the addictive personality of the human that is to blame.

There are many shaken baby deaths per year in the U.S., all spanning from the mom/sitter getting aggravated or impatient.

Thank you for that. I'm not a Farmville player, but I am a lifelong gamer, and I hate it when loonies make any game look bad.

Yeah, I have to think that there was something going on OTHER than just this weird obsession with the games. How very sad.

Agreed. The games are just vehicles for something that would have happened under some other circumstances.

in all reality i think facebook in general has gotten a little extreme......i mean seriously its all over the back of our walmart reciepts...is it going to take over the world? i have yet to get one and dont care to due to the extreme obsession over it

Facebook has been wonderful for me due to being able to keep up with the happenings of my relatives. I hate talking on the phone so facebook has been a godsend. I play some of the games to relieve stress but I am far from obsessed. When my grandson comes over, I don't go on the computer at all.

There was obviously a screw loose (probably the compassion and loving mother screw) with this woman. I will never understand how anyone can beat up an infant for crying out loud...nevermind any child of any age!:cry3:

Another human being who clearly should not have been in breeding. With this woman it wouldn't have mattered what she was doing, she could have been doing the dishes, or knitting, or even studying and became impatient and shook her child. It's the media's way of once again, twisting the sordid truth even more to sensationalize the crime.

wow that is unbelivable. My husband likes to play games. and my kids from time to time. I personally don't like video games at all. I cant imagine someone being SO rapped up in it they could not feed there kids or dog. and let a dead dog rott in your house for 2 mo. Didn't the smell bother her.

What a disgrace she is. That monster does not deserve another day on this earth. I feel so bad for that poor baby.

i heard about this on the news last night. we actually studied child abuse in early childhood and i remembered our teacher telling us about people shaking to death their baby. i didnt believe her but i guess i was wrong. its sad that people like that are parents, they dont deserve it.

Shaken baby syndrome has been discussed for a while. Babies are so delicate you can cause neck and brain injury just from shaking them violently. It's awful.

I know a kid who has brain damage from being shaken by a babysitter when the kid was an infant.

I'm not particularly fond of babies, but I cannot fathom how someone could do that to such a helpless little person. It nauseates me to think of it.

Poor baby... but the kid had a broken leg too, so you know she didn't just shake it. She probably threw it around a little too. :(

I do FB but I don't do any of the games and never have. I've have better things to do with my time, I guess.
