Mmm Helicobacter pylori..
So I have talked to some of you in chat about a bit of this but there's more!...
I was having some issues with Walmart - my ex place of employment. My parents and Oma/Opa went away to Europe to go to a funeral and also so my Opa, who has terminal cancer, can say goodbye to family. I had let work know this immediately when I was hired over a month ago. My manager (I worked as a cashier) said she would help me get altered hours since right now I am caring for my younger siblings (6 and 11) by myself. Well, they did not alter my schedule and I kept getting phone calls from managers asking why I wasn't showing up for shifts which should have been changed. I even talked to my manager so she could fix it, and the day after got a call from the store manager asking me why I wasn't there.
So finally 2 days after that my manager phones to discuss my new schedule and I tell her that the responsibilities at home are more than I expected. I have never watched the kids by myself for this long, so I didn't realize what a huge job it would be. And thats without the zoo of birds, chins, hedgie, gerbils, dogs, fish, hermit crabs, etc. So I told her I just didn't think I could work until my parents got home (Oct1) and she goes.. "Well, that's not going to work for me. You're going to have to terminate your employment and apply after they get home."
I was stunned, I mean, they have known about the situation for about a month and have completely ignored it! It's obvious they don't have their stuff together.... So anyways she tells me she'll need an answer on that ASAP.
I didn't like my job there anyhow so immediately I started looking for new jobs, applying everywhere I could. I actually came across a daycare my fiance's friend works at. Her mom owns the place, and she accepted an interview with me today. Well, she also hired me today! So needless to say, I will no longer be working at Walmart. And the better thing is, I will be doing something I love to do - working with kids. Most of my experience is with working with kids. And even better, with my degree in science I may qualify for a higher level of child care certification and that can bump my wage up $6 an hour more.
So in the end, it all worked out much better anyways. And my new place of work was really understanding about me going back to school for Nursing and said they would work with me on fixing my hours and making it more flexible. So that's really awesome!
I guess it is true what they say -- things happen for a reason. And when one door closes, another (& much better one, may I add) opens.
