More babies

Witsy a 1a standard female (6 okes) and Gonzalo a Black velvet (hummel)
Had 1 girl (z26) at 55 grams and 1 boy (z27) at 45 grams both are doing well. Witsy is a first time mom.

Franchesca (1st place sapphire) then within an hour of Witsy (in the same cage) had z28 a standard sc female at 78 grams.
Franchesca is not a 1st time mom

Witsy is going out of her way to show she is a superior mom and has taken on all 3 kits, She lets Franchesca helpl clean but shoves all 3 kits under herself LOL

I've never seen a mama chin handle her kits such as putting them under her. Do you happen to have a video of that Kristy?
Oh..I see that first picture better now. I just saw 2 right hind feet on what looked like 1 baby.

Isn't that something to have two female's birth kits at nearly the same time! Congrats on the new babies and healthy moms. I could sit there all day and watch the little ones move from one mom to the next. Cute story.

I don't have a video but I can try to get one. It is simalar lookig as to when they try to pull your hand under them. Witsy has become a little crazy control freak with the babies. I think a rabbid dog in the cage would make it easier LOL she does not want me touching her babies. I will give her another day of getting mobbed by the babies and she will mellow...they always do. She hasn't left her corner for more than 3 minutes, while franchesca (this is Franchesca's 6th or so) comes down for a bit lets the babies cuddle and nurse then leaves for a bit.

It is not uncommon in colonies for females to deliver close for example In one of my colonies I have Pheonix who delivered 1/28/10 followed by Jojo 2/2/10 then Faith 2/10/10

then in another group I have Jazzy 3/10/10 her cagemate sweetie delivered 3/14/10

I have several times had females in the same cage or different cages deliver at the same time. Females of any species will start to cycle at the same time. It is evolutionary, if they all deliver at the same time they are more able to help care for the young of each other thus keeping the species going. You find it very frequently in animals that are social.

I have 5 boys and they have never tried to pull my hand under them, just shove it away. Perhaps that is a momma chin thing? Pretty much all I have had is litters of kittens and it would seem that chins are quite a bit different. Do they grab the kits by the scruff of the neck with their teeth? Do they handle kits with their hands? That would look so cool seeing a momma chin with a tiny kit in hers hands wouldn't it? LOL

I will definitly try to get some video if not from witsy then from the next to litter. They use thier paws, never the scruff. They don't hold them with their paws more kinda shove them around lol. I will try to get video happens more the first day than any other day.
