okay....i took in two rescues in june. I was waiting to do hair ring checks until they got more comfortable with us. Well tonight was the night. They are both suppost to be under a year old. While checking for hair rings I noticed that little gambit does not have any testicles....i mean he has the skin but no ...balls (sorry) and no obvious signs of surgery....could this be something he was born with out? I just do not understand why a person would pay to get the little guy fixed and then treat him like they did. guess I was just surprised...

I had a couple chinnies who upon reaching maturity had small testicles or testicles which never descended from the abdomen. They had no health problems but just were not able to breed nor did they show any type of drive to breed either.

Chinchillas are able to withdraw their testicles into their abdomen, so they are not always out. You can usually notice them if they are sitting on a shelf. When they are calm and relaxed, those LPCBs (my abbreviation for Little Pink Chin Balls ;) )tend to emerge and show more.

I've had people call me up frantic because their chins "have tumors." They just never saw the testicles descend at all before...and the first time they see them it really freaks some people out. If the skin is there, the little testicles exist, they are just retracted at the time. When a chin runs around for playtime for awhile, he will heat up and the LPCBs will emerge. (This is a good abbreviation. I hate having to explain underbelly things to people in person. I turn bright red when I have to explain furrings to people...)

I think there are pics of Crash's LPCBs in my album here if it'll help put your mind to rest, but the ability to tuck them out of the way is sort of like a human athlete wearing a protective cup. I sure as heck wouldn't want to bounce naked from rock to rock with stuff dangling in harm's way!

There goes my chin athletic cup/anti-hair ring business I was gonna start, darn. Wait, they'll still work for anti-hair rings. Send $77.99 to my paypal

BTW, what I mentioned in my post is different from the normal withdrawing of the testicles seen in males. The chins I mentioned were looked at by a rancher and a vet who palpated them and confirmed that one had abnormally small testicles and the other did not develop and fully mature.

Thank you everyone! I was just a little shocked. The poor guy was in bad shape when we got him and very anti-social........was not sure what had been done to him. I think if some one I just met was pokin around down there and I could hide them....i would
