OK, so I had a German Shepherd pull a 100 pound + Grooming table onto my shin/ ankle. I am having surgery in 3 days, so I cannot take ibuprofen. I can only take acetaminophen products. Does that mean I can take a vicodin? It hurts badly. I am heading up to ice it right now and I am going to try my dr.s office.

I can sympathize. I could only use tylenol days before my acl surgery last wed. Vicodin should be ok you don't want to overdue it because you really want the pain meds to work for you AFTER surgery. I ended up needing something stronger than vocodin :(

Yup you can take Vicodin or the generic Hydrocodone/APAP .I'm a nurse so I know that is acetaminophen based.Might I ask what your reaction is to the ibuprofen??

The pre-op paperwork said no NSAIDS 5 days before surgery.usually I take only ibuprophen- don't even own any tylenol. Have the vico from dental work.

I did get some this morning. I had none last night when I was in pain and was not about to go to the store and get some. I ended up taking nothing. I want to make sure I don't mess up my surgery success. It hurt all night, and it hurts to walk this morning.

Definitely call Dr office and get pain med prescribed. You need pain control/rest before going into surgery too, that way your recovery and ability to do the necessary physical therapy won't be affected. Going in for surgery after a few days of no sleep and lots of pain is going to put you behind in your recovery after surgery. The Dr can prescribe med for pain relief/control that won't interfere with the surgery/anesthesia/bleeding, etc.
