Does anyone own or use this cage? I understand that the plastic shelves would need to be removed and that the bottom is plastic but it looks like the metal top of the cage sits on the plastic bottom to prevent chewing. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this cage and if they liked it or if there Chinchilla's could chew on the plastic bottom. None of my chins are big plastic chewers but I'd rather be safe then sorry!

Thanks,
Ashley

I have this cage and use it without a problem. A determined chin could easily chew his way out, as the pan is pretty loosely against the metal, though. Mine leave it alone. My only complaint is the size of the doors. I wish they were bigger.

from my bit of googling on prices for that cage, you'd be better off spending a bit more money on a better cage (and with bigger doors!). check out your local craigslist to see if anyone is selling used cages. that's how i found Rhino's huge cat cage (2x3x4 feet tall), and it was only 50 bucks. i did spend extra money on tons of wood shelves and also made a wood base for it, but what i spent in total ended up making a wonderful cage for him, and for less than what even a used FN is going for around here.

Chinnymom - That is a great idea and my chins are jealous of Rhino's cage :) however I am currently moving from Alaska to Georgia. The chins will be traveling in small bird cages so I want a cage to be waiting for us once we get there. That's the only reason I'm trying to find a cage before hand. I really want something with a deep pan like this one has. I currently have a ferret nation and while I've gone from absolutely hating it to tolerating it I'm hoping to find a better match for us. My first priority is the safety of the chins of course, I don't want something dangerous or harmful to them but we need something better for us.

Hmm, the doors are kinda small. Three out of my four chins jump to the doors when they open and will jump onto my hands when I hold them out but getting my one skittish chin would be hard with such small doors. Huh. I will keep looking, if anyone has any suggestions I'd be open to them!
