We are thinking of bonding our boy and I am concerned because his cage is literally right next to the girls. If we bond him with another male will they fight over the females even though they are not caged together?

I have 1 - cage with 4 boys and right next to them is a cage with 3 - girls. I have a thick cardboard in between the cages. These cages been like this for over a year. I think it might depend on the boys.

It definitely depends on the boys. I have 2 males who are caged together. When I only had 1 female, they had a bit more scuffles, but now that my girls outnumber the boys, they don't scuffle nearly as much.

Our very first chins started fighting when they were living at the chin rescue because the females next door went into heat, their fighting continued after we brought them home and we had no females at the time. We were VERY ignorant one ended up dying due to injuries sustained. Because of this I would never pair males together if they were living near females. Is there any way you can move the cage to a place where they can't smell the females? Maybe someone else has had more positive experiences?

We have a cage with two boys that's next to (maybe 2 feet from) a cage with a female. There's nothing separating the cages other than air. Never had any problems.

It depends on the chins. I have more trouble getting my girls to get along than I do my boys.

I've had male groups in the same room as pet and breeding females for over 10 years and haven't had an issue related to the girls being nearby. I've had a few that didn't get along with a particular male, but they did fine with another male. Sometime it just isn't going to work out between two chins, regardless of their gender.

I have 3 boys surrounded by girls in different cages. Mick and Wesley share, Leonard is alone. I've never had any issues with the boys spazzing out or fighting because they are near the girls. Leonard does his best to woo Bobo and Gigi from afar--but just keep dreaming Leonard!

I too have had 2 males together with females all around with no problems - again it depends on the females and males. A good friend of mine use to breed and she would put some males together for companionship when she wasn't 'using' the males. Now she isn't breeding anymore and has paired up any chin that would allow it with same sex pairs. Males and female pairs are in the same room. Most of her chins paired up and have been together for over 2 years

I have three male pairs currently.

All are close, and in the same room as many females. One pair however, is just recently weaned babies. The other pair is about 9 months old...and the final pair one chin is 8 years, the other is atleast 7/8 maybe older(rescue). They've been together for quite a while now with no problems.

I've also had males fight, too...but I've also seen females attack and nearly kill another female..all depends on the chins.

Thanks guys.. actually to be more correct, it is a three level FN, girls on bottom, boys on the very top.
