I have 2 mosaic chinchillas (siblings). Perfectly healthy and active. 1 of them recently has been barking randomly throughout the day and night but eats and drinks water fine.

I thoroughly checked him out and discovered a small lump on his right side between his arm and chest. Doesn't bark and try anything funny when I softly touch it. From the reading I'm thinking its some sort of abscess.

Anyone else who can enlighten me on the matter?

I would have a vet take a look at it. There is a chance that it is an abscess and it will need vet care and antibiotics to get rid of it. Just because he doesn't react when you touch it doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt. He could actually be in quite a bit of pain and be hiding it, which chinchillas are really good at doing.

Hello everyone just an update I've taken my chinchilla to the vet. I found a really nice place over in Cresskill, N.J. Great doctor you could tell she knew her stuff about Chins.

She told me my chinchilla was in great health.

Down to the point, she asked if I would let her poke the lump with a needle to see what it was, of course I said yes.

Clear liquid came out. She explained it wasn't an abscess. There was a possibility that it was a cyst or rather nothing at all to worry about.
