I have a chin that's about 7 months old he has had 2 seizures. I read a thread on here that described every detail of his seizure. It is a low thiamine seizure. What can I give him to increase his thiamine level, and will that reduce his seizures?

Chinchillas showing thiamine deficiency will need large doses of a Vitamin B complex, which should continue for at least a period of 4-5 weeks or until the problem has resolved. Supplying such doses of Vitamin B complex to a chinchilla must be done under the supervision of a veterinary surgeon and the chinchilla's health must be constantly monitored during the time of supplementation.

Thiamine can be found in good quality hay but be warned the quality will diminish over time and much quicker if not stored in the correct manner.

Was the low thiamine diagnosed by a vet? Just a reminder that a forum is not a substitution for vet care. Seizures would definitely warrant a vet visit to a competent exotics vet.

You might want to start with Tanya's supplement, but a chin competent vet visit is probably in order here as well.

Update: His regular vet referred me to a specialist who says he also thinks its low thiamine seizures. He recommended I feed him green leafy vegetables like kale, Collard greens, ect. He will only eat them once they are dried.

Before you go down the route of feeding dried veggies (which is controversial on many forums, including this one!) please can you answer a couple of questions:

When does your chin fit exactly? Can you describe them for us?

He has had 2 "fits" both in the evening. The first one was after his run around time. The 2nd there was no run around time. He twitches and shakes, he moves like he's drunk, his eyes get real droupy, and his mouth contorted. He hates the 1/10 CC of thiamine. I've tried to discise the taste but with no luck. Any suggestions?
