losing fur

My friend in China has a chinchilla. Since the chins have only been in China for less than 5 years the animal vets are really unformiliar with them. And my friend has no resource of information like this forum to ask around in. So I'm trying to help him figuring out why his female chin has been losing fur on her belly. And there is a huge spot that's totally bald. Its about the size of a quater anf she's been inactive. So, since there is no vets around him that could help, please give as much as info you can to help that poor little girl. Thanks a million!

He'd have to go to a vet for a diagnosis and a prescription. There's nothing over the counter that can be given for pain and shouldn't be given when there isn't a diagnosis.

That's the problem, there is no vets that are formiliar with chins in China. But they can get a lot of meds that requires prescription in America over the counter.

I still would not be giving medication without having a proper diagnosis. If the chin is in pain, there is a reason it is in pain and it needs to be fixed. Giving it pain medication may help with the pain but it will not solve the problem causing the pain.

That's so true, I will tell him to just take his chin to a chinese vet and see what they say. Hopefully they are truthful and responsible to the chin......since they usually don't, they only care about money......:wacko:
