Hello everyone,

I'm new the world of chinchilla ownership, I just acquired two males, ages 2-3, and they are both absolutely amazing. They have quite a large cage, I got them from a good friend who just does not have the time to dedicate to these little guys any longer and so they came with a whole bunch of supplies and accessories. However, I'm looking to change the cage up a bit, they don't have any hide houses or anything like that, although they do have a hammock. I would like to find something that preferably both fit in relatively comfortably. I've done a lot of looking around online, but I haven't had much luck. Anyways, I would really appreciate any input anyone has on where I could purchase a nice house for my little guys to sleep in that's safe and roomy, what kind of materials work nice for chinnies (fleece, wood, etc.), or what kinds of houses you guys use that work well for your pets. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Hope to hear back from people soon. =)

welcome!

there are a number of members here who make some amazing chin products - for houses, both wood (chin-safe, such as kiln dried pine) or fleece (only fabric you want to use for chins)... I have gottens some awesome fleece houses (big square would probably work good for your two boys) from Brittany with ClassyChillas.com and there are a few others on here who make kickin' fleece accessories (my kids LOVE their fleece covered tubes, too)... for wood, I have been making my own hidey houses/ shelves but again, there are a couple of places you can look also

http://www.chincessories.com/cageaccessories.htm is one that looks like they have some fun stuff...

hope this helps - if you want any suggestions about fairly simple house building there are some tips on the forums here or feel free to pm me (I am no pro, but my chins seem to enjoy eating the houses I make them...)

Hi! The others answered your questions pretty well, so I just wanted to say that we make pine houses for sale. I can even do custom ones if you'd like. You can see pictures of the ones we've made in the past on the Supplies for Sale page of our website (linked in my signature). The porthole hidey house is actually one that I made for a member here. Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Congrats on your new chins! They are great little pets. :)

You can't go wrong with a wood house. Wood will last a long time and also gives them something they can chew on. Also I would suggest at least 2 houses since you have 2 boys. PVC pipes work pretty good too and you can mount them on the cage side or from the top. Some people use square glass cookie jars that are around $5 at target/walmart; both boys won't fit together but it is another inexpensive option.
