Mork is constantly making noises letting me know that he's lonely, and I just discovered (last night, via this forum) that the other noise he makes when he swishes his tail means he's horny. He usually makes that noise when I pet him!
Anyway, I had given him a stuffed buddy a few days ago, it fell on the floor and he hadn't touched it since. So then I tried something new, whenever he makes those noises he's on the top ledge of the cage, where it's easiest to get my attention. So I put the little buddy (a hamster beanie baby, lol) up there, and he looked at me like, "What am I supposed to do with that?" So then I petted him for a while until he started his swishy tail dance, then I quickly stuck it in front of him and he was like "OOOOH!!!" and immediately started attempting to make chinchilla-hamster hybrids.
I noticed with fondness that he was giving it lots of love nibbles on the ear area, haha. He hasn't chewed it at all, it's texture is a lot like fleece.

He still makes his lonely noise though. I take him out more often than Rodya and Sonya, partly because he wants to come out more and is easier to take out, and partly because of that noise he makes. Is there something else I could be doing? As much as I would love another chinchilla, especially a cage mate for Mork, his fatal wounding of Orson makes me think he could never be paired with another chinchilla.
What do you all think? I obviously don't know his age (adopted him from the SPCA) and I do know he's deaf, which I think makes a difference. Also, I wouldn't start to look into getting him a cage mate, if that was a possibility, until next November, when I'm sure he's at least a year (and some months) old.
But do ya think there's a chance? I don't want him to be stuck with fleece friends for all his life :(

He could be just going through puberty and eventually his humping and other things should really settle down; I know it did with my boys. As far as getting him another cage mate after he killed his previous one, I personally would not take that risk. Lots of people have single chins and they're perfectly content to be that way as long as they're getting the attention they need from you they should be fine. Having him around other chins where he can 'chin chat' to them is nice b/c that also helps keep them company. I've got three single boys here right now and they're totally fine being alone but being in the chin room with the other two pairs.
