the boards i get are 5 inch's wide by a few feet (before i cut them up.) I personally cut them into 6 inch sections and use the 6 inch as a width simply because its easier to attach to my cage that way. But 5 inch can work to. It can seat a chin comfortably. Some time i see two chins together on a single 6x5 ledge. Its kinda funny to see.
Running around tho would be more length.
