is there something inthe lava rocks that make them so much more appealing to the chinnies? Both mine won't even touch pumice, but will go crazy over the colored lava rocks but they are so expensive. Does anyone know where to buy those in bulk? If I can find out the secret of those lava rocks, like maybe they're flavored or something, so I could buy just the normal pumice and incorporate whatever it is about the lava rocks, into the normal pumice, then that would work too.

Yeah, I don't know why my girls seem to love the lava items so much, they hardly touch the pumice stones too. The package says they're flavored, but who knows if they really are, or if it's just a marketing ploy.

You can get lava ledges which are the same material but way larger. The last longer :))

On the lava line, the Bites, there is a note on what the flavors are. I know the pink is to be "cinnamon" I forget the rest. Not sure like Alli if it is a marketing ploy or not, but it is listed

I do not give pumice anymore,(white crumbly one) I have seen to many things about them and stones, and having had a chin with a stone recently, I would rather be safe then sorry.

There is a petstore within about 15 minutes from me, called Petland, they are in Fairless Hills, PA (i live in NJ). They gave me a $5 off any $25 purchase, so I went in there and bought the smaller lava ledges, they come 2 to a pack. I picked up 3 packs & a bag of hay, equalled exactly 25, so my bill was only 20 bux! I thought that was a good deal, as even if I found them on line cheaper I would have to pay for shipping. Every time I go in there they give me another coupon, so I figure I will just go back when these are gone.
My upstairs boys absolutely LOVE them. I have not given them to the new guys yet. I want to rearrange their cage again and then I am going to add them. I think I am more excited then them!! lol

I've actually licked those, and I taste nothing....

It is a harder pumice than the "soft' pumice stones, I'm sure the texture has a lot to do with it as well. They actually pour them into a mold to make them, then they coat them with the coloring and so called flavor.

Some people have soaked pumice stones in koolaid with no sugar I believe to reach a flavored affect. I'm not sure on the specs on that though.

I have also licked them and tasted nothing. I was curious as to why my chins were so into them, but not regular pumice. I licked each individual flavor as well. Nada.

I've only used the 2 x 2 x 2 pumice blocks from those Dr. guys - some make them little balls in no time, and with others, it takes awhile, but they all chew them!
Maybe if they don't get the expensive flavored stuff they don't miss it!

has anyone done this?? I just got a lot of the pumice & would like to change it up a bit?
i am assuming you buy the sugar free and dilute it pretty good. but would like to hear better instructions and perhaps flavors that were well received.

 You guys actually tried tasting them! That's funny! I bet the marketers who are claiming that they are flavored never thought that an owner would try them and find out they they really weren't! I do wonder about that koolaid thing. I too am interested to know if anyone has attempted to soak them?
