Does anyone know how to fix doggie constipation?

I have a 14 year old standard long-haired dachshund. Lately he has been really constipated. It takes him probably 5 minutes to poop and he will start in 1 place and end in 4 other places and they are just so tiny. He's on senior food and we haven't changed anything. He mainly just sleeps all day like any old dog would. Anything that will help? He just had his geriatric exam last month and is very healthy for his age. I'm just stumped.

My senior cocker spaniel/dachshund mix had constipation every once in a while when he was on the Innova Evo food. I think it was just so high in protein, his body utilized most of the food and he just didn't have enough bulk to his stool. I would give him a scoop of plain canned pumpkin for extra fiber and it always did the trick. I've since changed his diet and he is on a higher fiber food which seems to suit his digestive system better. I felt so bad when he'd be outside straining for such a long time! :(

I was going to suggest plain puree pumpkin too. It is great fiber and will get things moving so to speak. I have used that on human, and fur family alike and have had great results(dont' tell my children).

Yes, I have heard the plain pumpkin works wonders. Good luck! Lol, TKC promise not to tell your kids!
