I took my dog into get a spay, she's older, and I know it should have been done sooner, etc..

But during blood work they found she has some kidney malfunction. He said it's not kidney failure, but it's not where it should be at either, even for her age.

So we elected not to do the spay since she'd be higher risk for problems ( and I lost her mom during a later in life spay, so I was naturally nervous about the whole thing anyway).

He wants to check her again in 8 weeks to see how or if it's progressing. She's not currently on any meds or special diet, etc.

Should I be really concerned? Has anyone else had anything like this before. I was a little concerned with the lack of doing anything... but then again, we can't always "fix" everything either.

What breed is the dog and how old is she? How abnormal was the blood work? Slightly elevated or quite a bit? For now, I would do as the vet recommended. I would also want to try to find out what exactly is wrong with her kidneys if the six week follow up shows the disease is progressing. I imagine there is some medications that will help her if you can find out exactly what is going on. I hope it turns out to be nothing too serious. Good luck.

He didn't really say a specific amount, I'm going to try to pick up a copy of the blood work tomorrow as I actually didn't even leave the house today! It was enough to be concerned about, but not enough to feel like we should take action now.

My mom was going to have her vet look at the results as well, she lived with my mom for a couple years so she's kind of upset too.
