Its very humbling to wake up to the text I woke up to today. My mother texted me to tell me that sometime around 6am this morning her a/c literally exploded like a mini bomb inside the outside casing thing. There were parts out and smoke and electricity hissing around and all kinds of craziness. After powering off the a/c from the breaker box they found out(so far) that their dish washer and coffee machine had blown. The dishwasher, ok most can deal without. But the coffee maker being broken sucks. They need coffee to function.

So now they have to buy a new a/c(kinda law here in Florida. LOL) new dishwasher and new coffee maker. Just when you think you are getting ahead and you can get the newest and shiniest new toys(they were planning on Androids and iPhones) they get hit with about $6-8000 in replacing appliances.

IMPO nothing is every hunkey dorey life is just living between major crises....everytime things are smooth something happens it is just the way of life.

Kristy - That should be a slogan on a T-shirt. "Life is just living between major crises." Honest to God, isn't that the truth? I almost am afraid to think something might be going well for 10 minutes, because as soon as I do, the other boot drops.

Mel - Sorry about your mom's stuff. Nothing ever breaks one at a time. It always happens that when one thing breaks, half the house falls apart

Ugh, that so sucks, as I'm more inclined to not function without the iPhone instead of coffee but I know the necessity of caffeine! That being said, I'm glad your parents or any pets were near the a/c when it blew up.

Have they had an electrician in to see why everything blew like that and what else might be damaged? I'd be concerned about the wiring in the walls near the appliances that blew.

Luckily coffee makers aren't too expensive. Their morning joe will be back soon. :)

If there was storms during the night - that sounds more like a lightning strike to me -
covered by homeowners insurance, including a electricians visit!
A short would be kinda hard to get that all at once!

Also, I recently found Wal-Mart has pretty good deals on coffee makers!

They got the a/c and coffee maker already and we were thinking it was lightning because there was nothing inside to cause the "explosion" and the neighbor on that side of the house lost her microwave and some other appliance. So they paid for everything out of pocket(especially since they need it all NOW) but they are going to call the insurance company and let them know and see what they can do. BTW Mom was excited she found her coffee maker "on sale" for $100. I nearly crapped.

Make sure they save the 'blown-up' components, take pictures, and save receipts for the insurance adjuster!
Will make things go a lot smoother.

Everything is fixed. Not sure if they took pictures or not. But Im sure the power company would have the information on a lightning strike and then the company that came out to fix it Im sure they will notify them on behalf of my parents. Im sure the neighbor loosing appliances too will show some act of God happened.

They said they were going to TRY and get it through insurance. They wont be terrible upset if they dont get reimbursed. Everything is fixed now thats the main concern.

So we found out the xbox, the pool heater and dryer were all blown and gone.
