"Sweetie" is a Father's Day present. I'm excited. I'm disabled and home alone quite a bit. Now I'm just disabled. LOL

We didn't purchase a cage from the pet store because we consider this a serious purchase and didn't want to limit ourselves to their selection. Wanted to see what was available online and such first. Anyway, expect lots of questions from me. I want to make sure I do this right. :)

Aww what a cutie! Congrats on the new family member. It's ears look a bit too pink which makes me think he/she may be a bit too warm. What temp are you keeping your chin's area? We always keep our chin room around 65. Not everyone keeps it that cool but it should never get higher then the low 70's especially when they are out for play time. The little fur balls can get really warm when bouncing around. :)

As far as pet cages go I tell most of my customers about www.qualitycages.com They have very nice safe cages for chins.

I think the flash did that to the ears. They are a nice gray color normally. Of course she had been sleeping for probably two hours in my sons hoodie just prior to this and may have been a bit warm. :) It's a balmy 71 degrees in the room and probably feels cooler than that with the ceiling fan. Nice tip though about looking at ear color to detect overheating. Thanks.

LOL I just read your other thread and thought that as well. 71 is a good temp. Fans do not do anything for chins.. they do not sweat or pant so air movement doesn't do much. They do loose most of their heat from their ears and feet so a nice cool stone slab aka a chin chiller (don't buy one at the pet store..go to Home Depot and get some marble or stone tiles.. it's much cheeper) works well. A lot of chins will even sit on the metal grates of the central ac redgisters when out for play time to cool off.

Hello and welcome! What a great gift! Your chin is adorable! There is a lot to learn about chins, but really, they are very easy to care for. This forum is great for answering all kinds of questions, so do some research, but also, don't hesitate to ask! We're glad to have you here!

I second the cages by Quality Cage Company. Mine live in the 'mansions' which are huge! I recommend the shelve guards as many chinchillas are 'projectile poopers'!! It amazes me how far their litter and waster falls from the cages.
The wheels and flying saucers are great too.
