One of my chinchillas, Momo, was housed in the same cage as her father (which I didn't know until I picked her up). She was a little less than 12 weeks old when I picked her up.

I've read that females can be sexually mature at as few as 3-4 months old. But it's pretty rare though, right? So the odds of her being pregnant are pretty much zero...right?

I just want a bit more information to put my mind at ease.

Or is it only the males that can get females pregnant when they're 3-4 months old and females can't get pregnant until 6 months at the earliest?

See? I'm confused here.

A responsible breeder would not have left a female chin in with a male at 12 weeks. Yes, there is a chance she's pregnant. Is it a high chance? No, not like with a normal breeding pair, but it definitely could have happened.

Ok, that's what I was thinking. There's a chance but not a large chance.

I got the feeling that she wasn't a very responsible breeder whatsoever. I hope it doesn't endanger the life of my sweet little Momo. If she is pregnant, I know it can be really bad for her since she's so young.

Since the father is also a mosaic, there's a 25% lethal chance if she is pregnant, right?

Lethal factor is not as bad as it sounds.. It will not cause death in any one Mom or baby.. And odds are she is not pregnant.

I was pretty sure I read somewhere that the odds of pregnancy at that age were pretty slim. I just wanted to make sure I got the proper information.
