I was wondering if toilet training is possible for chinchillas.
What I mean by toilet training is training chinchillas to pee in one particular place within their cage (because obviously they poop uncontrollably and if there's someone who can tell me how to train chinchillas where to poop, please tell me :) ).

The reason why I'm asking this is because my white violet, Winnie, always always always pees in the same corner in his cage. When he's outside for his playtime, he never pees and he can hold it until he goes back inside his cage.
I also noticed from people's pictures of cages that use fleece liners, there's usually a litter pan & I'm assuming that's where the chinchillas pee. I'm thinking that changing his aspen bedding to fleece + a litter pan would be a good idea.

On the other hand, my standard grey, Tubby, pees everywhere!!! Anywhere in his cage, and when he's outside for his playtime, he pees on the carpet when he feels like it! I can't see changing his bedding to fleece, as that would be too much laundry for me.

There's no fool proof way to litter train them. What most of us do the first time is take soiled shavings and put them in the pan, then place the pan in the corner they seem to use the most.

They may use it most of the time, sometimes, or not at all. I have a chin that uses his most of the time, but he still pees in other places occasionally too. A majority of my others only use the pan half the time and the other half they pee elsewhere.

Phoenix uses her liter pan only a few times that I notice. Some weeks she goes in it more than the next so I guess it is based on your chins personality. Phoenix is really stubborn so she wants to tell mommy that she will go anywhere she pleases and that mommy can't make her go in her liter pan all the time.

I haven't really tried it with Sedona and she pees a lot more than Phoenix so I might put it in there the next time I change bedding so she notices it right away.

I wish there was a way to liter train them

My boy pees basically in the back right corner every time, until i place a pan of shavings there, he pees everywhere, except in the shavings then.

For pee, yes; poo, no. All of my boys use their potty pans very well.

It's basically pellets in, pellets out.

Like Stacie said, try a small pan with a few soiled shavings (or, I use Carefresh) in their favorite corner and hope for the best.

I think that if there is a difference in the pan vs the rest of the cage, it works better. For example, I have fleece liners, so there is only Carefresh in the potty pan, so they "know" that's where they should go to pee. Good luck...
