I got topchoice white wood i believe it was called, from Lowes. The dude working there said that white wood and pine were the same, he also said that the stuff i got was not chemically treated or anything, is it safe to use?

'Whitewood' and pine are not exactly the same thing. 'Whitewood' is a generic forest industry term for anything that is either spruce, pine or fir (SPF stamped) (ie, they are all from a mixed forest and identifying the species would be too time consuming and their properties are similar from a woodworker's (the intended consumer) point of view). However, it is my understanding that while pine and fir are safe for chins, spruce is not so I think it may be best to stay away from whitewood (SPF) if you can't tell which is which.

I would not risk it. Better be safe than sorry.
You can find KD pine wood at Lowe's ,just look for a stamp on the wood itself that says pine.

Could you tell from a picture of it because i just spent a while making shelves and stuff, also she was out when i was drawing lines on it for where to cut and got a small nibble, could that be fatal?

It might be somewhat difficult to tell by just looking at it. Does your receipt say anything?

Our Lowe's here has a "white wood" as well that is pine...but as stated above it can also be spruce so I would definitely try to find out for sure. Most of the woods are stamped also, with what they are. Safe pine says "KD" on it, etc. If it were me, I'd be finding out for sure...

He said their white wood was pine, also that it was not treated
