So I had to stay at my moms house tonight so I can take my little brother to summer school in the morning and my chin is located at my dads and it's thinderstorming and raining really bad outside and I feel like I should have brought her with me in a smaller carrying cage. I left a little night light on also and I was also wondering if her being in the complete dark all night was a problem. I'll be able to be back at my dads by about 9am so I think everythings ok I just wanted to make sure.

Your chin will more likely than not be fine. As long as the temperature stays cool enough, there won't be any problems. Chins can see fine in low light conditions.

I think it is probably less stressful for you to keep your chin at home, in a familiar environment, than to have brought her along with you, especially if it is just for the night.

It is always best to keep your chins at home where they are most familiar. Chins shouldn't travel at all! but if it's a must i.e. vet visits or shows it's best not to take em out of their homes. =)

What makes you think chins should not travel at all?

I've got several chinchillas here who would totally disagree with you. They have travelled all over with me & are not at all bothered by a "holiday. Some have visited my Parents in Scotland which is 10+ hours (one way) in the car.
If you read through some of the threads on here people have travelled 18+ hours with chins to shows & back - the chins aren't bothered.

It all depends on the chin & whether you can provide an appropriate means of transport which includes air conditioning if necessary. Chins generally sleep in the carriers when they travel.

Yes but usually people don't have the necessary needs for traveling like a cool place. Some do travel well and some don't it just depends on how much you travel with them i guess if you say yours do all the time. i've just been told by a breeder that if it's not necessary for a chin to travel it's best not to. To give them less stress as possible. They prefer familiar surroundings.Than the stress of a new place. But to each it's own.
