I bought my Adelaide (Addie) February 26th from JoAnne. Before she came she had been in breeding with a gorgeous male that JoAnne owns. The past few weeks she started gaining weight rapidly and I was starting to hold my breath that she might, possibly be pregnant. In just a couple of weeks she jumped from 614 to 649. Today I weighed her again and was sad to see that her weight had dropped back down to 638 g.
My question is whether or not a chins weight might fluctuate during the second month of pregancy or was she just on a sudden weight gain and weight loss program?

Weight can fluctuate that small of an amount and really not be considered weight loss. The loss of 11 grams isn't anything at all to worry about with a healthy chin over the short term. Chances are you will weigh her again in a week or two and she will be up again. A weight gain of 30 grams in a few weeks isn't too terribly rapid to indicate pregnancy or much else.

They can fluctuate, sure. A loss of 11 grams might simply be, the once you weighed her with a full bladder, the next time, empty. They can have definite ups and downs though, though in general, its a slow gain until more towards the end of pregnancy.

As for the 30 gram gain indicating pregnancy, my personal method of "telling" if they're pregnant is a gain of roughly 100 grams. Until they gain that, I feel like it's iffy. For example, I had a female jump 94 grams in the last 18 days. Definitely pregnant, no doubt. That's just me though. So far, only once has this not worked out for me, as once I had a female gain 50 grams and have a kit. Had I not seen the white tail sticking out from under mom, I would have never been looking for a kit. But usually they gain a lot more than that when pregnant, in my experience anyway. The for-sure way to tell is keep weighing. If there's an upward trend and that trend continues for awhile, then make sure you have her in a baby-safe cage and are ready for possible delivery.

That is what I experienced with my last litter, a steady climb from about day 60, which is where we are approx at right now.
Of course as you said, every chin is different, my first didn't show signs until the end. I had separated her and the male quite a while before thinking that she hadn't gotten pregnant only to come back to the chin room after a week of being struck down with the flu to find a rather large looking chin.
Baby cage is always ready as I never remove the hardcloth and shelves are at a safe height.

I noticed last year about 2 to 3 weeks before delivery they would loose about 20 to 30 grams.

I have had chins gain 50 grams and deliver twins or triplets and ones that gained almost 200 grams only have one or two kits. I have also had chins lose weight in the last week of pregnancy. I have also had chins gain 100 or more grams at a rapid rate, only to discover that they were just being piggies.
