Hi
I have a beautiful male albino chinchilla that I would love to breed and make more babies like him. Does anyone know if it is possible to let two albino chinchillas mate and produce albino babies?

There are no known albino chinchillas. What you have is called a Pink White, and no you should not breed two white chinchillas together.

Before you jump into breeding, I suggest reading the breeding forum and doing some research. There is much more to breeding then throwing two animals in the same cage together. One or both of your chins can be killed, you may need to hand feed babies every 2 hours day and night. YOu may find pieces of baby laying around the cage, may need to assist mom and help her deliever kits.. Lots of research should be done..and you should know atleast the basics of chinchilla genetics.

Start with these:

After you read all of that, then come back and read all the threads in the breeding and babies section. In fact, it wouldn't hurt to read through all the FAQ's in every section, as well as the threads, so that you are sure you are caring for your chinchilla properly.

I also suggest going to a few chinchilla shows so that you can see what a good quality chin looks like.

I agree with what has already been said. Don't breed 2 whites and do research before getting into breeding.

Also look into buying pedigreed chins from reputable breeders for breeding if you do decide to breed in the far future. You should know about their familial history before breeding, since so many bad things like Maloclussion (sp?), heart problems, etc. are passed on to the kits. You obviously don't want to bring chins into the world that have a higher chance of developing these often times deadly problems.

I have a breeding gone wrong section on my site under education.

If you can't look at those, you don't need to breed at all.

I agree with what has been said, it does look like you have a **** beige pink white.
And I also think that if you have to ask if it's okay to breed two whites, you don't need to breed yet. Research is the key.

Considering the cage you have is not chin-friendly, let alone kit-safe, I think you should focus more on that than breeding.

If you can't acurately tell your chins color you need to do lots more research before you think about breeding.

I really don't think the question is "is it possible" rather it should be "would it be sensible" and the answer to that question is no. Absolutely it's possible to breed any 2 opposite sex chinchillas - what you get out of the breeding is a whole other topic of discussion.

Much more research is in order here before sticking 2 chins of opposite sex together willy-nilly.
