Hello just joined the forum, I am member of wonderful UK forums but always good to broaden horizons!
I currently have 2 dark standard girlies, 1 and half and another 2 and half. I also got a Ebony rescue who after much love and care has been nurtured back to health and I would dearly love to introduce as a trio.
She was quarantined and intros have started though any trio success stories and tips would be interesting. Where we have got to so far. So the intro has been happening for roughly 4ish weeks.
So far cages been side by side, no cacking or disruptive behaviour here. During this time, soft features, toys and dustbaths have been swapped around to mix scents. To start we are trying one of the bonded pair with the newbie and gradually hope to increase neutral playtime with all 3.
Meeting one Leeloo (sub) with Munchkin (newbie) - Munchkin rusher but no chasing biting or pulling, stood on Leeloo's tail a little.
Meeting two Eva (dom) with Munchkin (newbie) - more nervous of this interaction and more dom personalities. Little bit standoffish, rearing and rushing but no real chasing.
Meeting three - Leeloo again with Munchkin - surprisingly this time Munchkin reared 1st then Leeloo reared and gave chase a little. In a way though when she caught up she didnt know what to do.
The first two meetings went better than expected and the third an eye opener, done very gently over course of a week and we will continue to do so.
I am aware trios are hard, they may not work and to be aware it can break up bonded pairs already of which have a contingency plan.
I have read about trimming whiskers - does this truly work as read their whiskers very sensitive and worried it would hurt or disorient them too much.
Vanilla - is this vanilla flavouring? We dont stock any vanilla and wonder what form best and again if it is good does not affect respiratory.
Lastly there is much talk of cage within cage. I have show cages but a main concern is possible biting toes? How have others tried it on here?
Any trio and quad stories appreciated. I dearly wish a white chin as a fourth BUT will await to see where this chin would fit in (ie pair with the Ebony if doesnt work out etc). I think the only guilt I have if two pairs is one would have a large cage and the others smaller. Of course could upgrade other time but it would make me feel a little bad not to give all luxury home immediately.
