As my other thread stated, my boy Captain Jack lost his brother Rum yesterday. I have been showering him with affection, to which he's been happy about. Today I bought lots more wood to make perches and shelves and threw out the old, sanded down the new and got them strung up. He's a pleased boy with his new shelves to bounce around on. Our new hay came in, so he got bi handfuls of new stuff and he's been eating. I maaay have given him a bit too much shredded wheat today, but he's still seeming a little down to me...

Which brings me to wondering how difficult it is to introduce a second chin to him? I have another FN141 in the shed that I could break out until they were together. But is it extremely difficult? He is an unaltered (I don't see many altered chinchillas, is this uncommon?) male. And fairly young at ~3.

If everyone thinks he will be alright alone, I will keep him alone. But if he'd do better in a pair, I will definitely contact some rescues and see if I can find him a friend.

Thanks!

I dont think any chin "needs" to be in a pair. Mostly the owners preference. You just have to weigh the what if's. They could get along great or you could end up with 2 single chins. After my bonded pair of males fought and had to be seperated, I'm a scaredy cat now! Best of luck either way you go!
