So I've been having tooth problems with my chinchilla miffy! Hes been having his incisors burred, so far his back teeth have always been ok and haven't needed anything doing to them.
I took him again about a week ago for a trim, he was fine afterwards but I've noticed in the past day or two that the one side of his mouth is wet, I thought it might have been water bottle related as he seems to have a thing for sitting under the end of his bottle, but after some observation I'm pretty sure it's from his mouth! I'm going to take him the vets again this Sunday.
Currently it's about a month-month and half between tooth trims, I'm aware this isn't going to change for the better. I don't want to put him through anything and if he's in pain then as hard as it will be I will have him put to sleep!
He's a lovely boy, he's still eating, he's still himself, he wants to come out as soon as he sees one of us, he flies to the bars of his cage for a tickle, basically not doing or acting in a way that suggests he's not happy!
Is this how I will know when he's had enough? When all of this changes or should I act before that happens!? It's so hard to think about when he still seems so full of life!

Has he had x-rays to check his roots?

Does he get any pain meds after the burrings?

Have his back molars been checked recently? And have x-rays been done? Does he bounce back usually between filings quickly? If the chin is still being a chin, doing chin things and appears to be happy, I personally would wait to have the back molars checked before I made any decisions on quality of life issues.
