So, I recently broke my rib, and it has not been feeling better, so I went to the doctor again today. He says he thinks I have Marfaw syndrome. I don't exactly understand what it means, but it is not good. I have a significant heart murmer that was not there a few months ago (had my appendix out and was hospitalized for 10 days, so they had me on a constant monitor). I guess my height and thin frame, horrible vision, thin wrists, as well as my long fingers, and left chest pain, are all symptoms. I have to go get a brain scan because it also poses risks of anurysms. I am really scared.

hopefully by catching it early & with all the developments in today's technology you will be able to live a healthy life. think positive.......

Chantel - Do you mean Marfan's? I tried going through some medical books to find the one you said, but it's not there. The first thing that came to mind was Marfan's.

If it IS Marfan's, here are a few really informative sites. I always think that knowledge is power. The more you know, the better you are prepared to discuss the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis with your doctor.

I will definitely keep you in my thoughts.

Yes, Marfans-can't read a doctor's handwriting for anything, and I am trying my hardest not to google it, but I think I have to.

Oh gosh Chantel, I really hope its not as bad as you think, and that its manageable. Does your family have any history of this type of syndrome?

Lots of hugs :hugs:

I wish you the best outcome! Hopefully it just sounds worse than what it really is, or is at least treatable.

My mom's old boss and both of his son's have Marfan's. I know her boss is in his 60's, so clearly it is possible to still live a long, full life.

Thank you! If you have any information about things they went through, that would be very helpful.

Chantel this is a manageable condition IF you have it. I know you are very thin, but are you abnormally tall for a woman? In any case I am here for you and I swear you're really trying to find a way to get me to come to Florida! As I already do everyday, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Update

The doctor could not do the echo he needed, but did confirm I have "marfan like" symptoms, but he said it was a possibility since it shows up in so many different levels. I have a brain scan tomorrow at noon, and on Monday I have the heart echocardiogram or whatever. Hopefully then, I will know a lot more. Prayers and well wishes would be greatly appreciated, I am very scared and just hope it is all a big mistake. Thank you for listening.

Speaking from experience I know how hard it is not to worry. I'm telling you though it just can't be Marfan's because you are the most beautiful woman I know and you don't have the characteristics of it from that stand point.
I say prayers for you, my beautiful friend, everyday. And if it turns out to be something big (which it isn't) I will be on a plain to the land of leather people and alligators in a heartbeat!

good luck! i'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you!! :hug2:

Sending my good wishes for you. I also am thin framed, & have crappy vision. Hope
you get better soon! Take care of yourself..

Update

Well...now they say I have a lump or hopefully a cyst in my breast. :hair: I am scheduled for a mamogram after the results of the other tests come in, which is hopefully today or tomorrow. I am so scared, but really think it is most likely a swollen/twisted/pulled muscle or nerve, or if it is a tumor hopefully it is benign. It is extremely painful when touched. The doctor said that makes it more likely to be benign. Does anyone have experience with this? Please keep me in your prayers again. Thank you.
