I'm confused. A thread for things you just don't understand

So yesterday I was babysitting, not for my usual family. The kids in this house are 11 and 9 and made it perfectly clear to me that they wanted to play their wii with each other. Out of boredom I reached out to the coffee table and returned to the sofa with a People magazine. I flipped through it and I cannot understand why almost four million people subscribe to it. I mean, all I found in it were pictures of people and their kids. Am I supposed to care that the guy from Mission Impossible took his kid to the beach?

So the thing I do not understand: why do people read People Magazine?

My theory is that by reading about celebrity's problems, people either feel better because these "perfect" people are somehow messed up, or they can just forget about their own problems and criticize those in the spotlight.

Or they're just bored and need some good mindrot to entertain themselves
