I'm so bummed! My husband called my from work, and Homeland Security is sending him away for the rest of the summer :( He leaves on the 25th, and isn't scheduled to return until Sept. 5th. We have 2 scheduled vacation/camping trips, already paid for, that we can't go on now. He will also be gone for our anniversary. And I'm bummed that the kids are home for summer vacation and won't get to spend anytime with their dad. It's just so last minute, and I always hate it when he's gone, especially when he's going to be gone this long. To me, summer is about families, and family fun, and now our family will be apart. I am so bummed...:cry3:

im so sorry jenn...

do your best to try to make the separation easier on the kids and yourself. oh and on your hubby too...you know he must not be a fan of this idea either.

i know its tough, stay strong though. *hugs*

To me, summer is about families, and family fun,

Wow, I wish my mom had ever thought of Summer that way. She had to work and I sat around. Then she would come home and gripe that I didn't do the dishes. No one ever (any time of the year) was concerned if I was having fun or not...especially while they had to work. Sorry for the vent...sucky childhood attack.

Anyway...sorry about your hubby. My BF works for the DHS too...he is a TSO. Fortunately they don't typically send those guys away...when they did once for a Hurricane it was a poorly organized mess.

Enjoy your summer any way and maybe you can get a friend or family member to go with you on those camping trips so the money isn't wasted.

Thanks!!! It's the one thing I hate about my husband's job, his unexpected departures. Usually he's only gone for a week or two, and this is his longest absence since he first went to the academy for 3 months. The boys and I will be fine, and will find fun things to do this summer, but I am just saddened that our plans got interrupted. And he always seems to be gone for my birthday or our anniversary! I'd rather have him gone in the summer months than winter, and I'm thankful I am here full time with my boys. I just hate these kind of surprises!

ETA - I just got a phone call from my hubby who now says there is another officer with the same name who works for DHS, and thinks maybe this could be a mixup. He won't know until tomorrow. I will not get my hopes up until I hear one way or the other...

I'm sorry Jenn. **Big Hugs** I can only imagine how hard it is to be apart that long. Keep your head up.

Aw, that's a shame. But your kids will get over it and understand eventually. My dad used to work nights and weekends when I was a kid, so a lot of my childhood I don't remember him being there. But when he was, it was awesome and now that I'm all grown up (well, mentally maybe not so much I'll always be a child) he has better hours and I love spending time with him. We had a lot less money when I was a kid, so he really had to take the job and although I did miss him being around I don't miss eating welfare food for dinner every night (mmm mmmm good hahahaha...but not really it wasn't very tasty...).

I am in your boat! I have a husband in the Navy and in the 16 years we have been married we have been able to spend a total of 3 years together without worry of deployment or underway time. It has been 8 months since I have seen or heard from him this time around so I know how lonely it can get and how hard it is to have someone you love gone for so long!

My advice to you would be to take those camping trips! the kids would love it and it would keep your mind occupied! And it would make the time go by quicker and before you know it, He's home!

Hubby not leaving afterall!!!!

Thanks to all of you with your kind words. I would have gotten thru the summer as best I could without my hubby around, and it is the best time of year for him to be gone - winter would have been a worse time, imo. I just value family time, and he's gone so much as it is, I really enjoy the time we can be together as a family in the summer. But, as it turns out, he is not leaving after all! There are 2 officers with the same name (Homeland Security) and an email for departure was wrongly sent to my husband. He is signed up for an assignment similar to this one, and he could still be called upon, but atm, he is home until further notice.

We had a wonderful camping trip earlier this week, and leave again Monday for Ocean Shores, which is a favorite destination of ours. More trips planned for next month. So I'm totally happy we're all together, and enjoying a beautiful summer so far.

Again, thanks for your replies, but I am no longer depressed! :)

YAY! I am glad it was a mistake and you got to do all the wonderful family things you wanted! :)

Thank you so much! I'm thrilled it was a mistake. My husband has been gone up to 3 months, and that was hard at first, but then I got into my own routine and I was fine. I can't imagine having him gone for 8 months or longer, and you have got to be a strong person to deal with that!

I'm glad for the mix-up.

Just being careful when you're "wrestling" now that he's not going to be gone.

Thanks! :) Routine is everything for me! It helps deal with the loneliness and the longer nights! But my 3 boys also keep me very busy with all their activities they have and I add more to my own schedule so I don't dwell on the fact he is gone for so long!

In fact as I type, I am on a break from cleaning the house in anticipation of his (hopefully) arrival next weekend! :dance3:

thanks Bonnie! Plenty of trips and bike rides in our future!

thanks Laurie! We'll be careful while wrestling! lol. We sure don't need anymore "oops" in front of the boys!!!

thanks Laura!!! I am glad he's home for now. I don't mind him going if it is just a short time away. btw, I love your siggy!!!

and Bostongirl'schin75 -sorry, I'm at a loss for your name :( -I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your hubby will be home with you soon!!!
