I just had to share this story cuz I feel so proud of myself!

earlier this week, I went my local store to purchase worms for my gecko and I noticed that the owner had brought in a baby chin to sell. He caught my eye, he was sooo tiny and what beautiful coloring, the owner told me he was a standard but he was super dark with a bright white belly, his top side was almost black....so cute...I asked him what his personality was like and he (like he normally does) told me to find out for myself and he unlocked his enclosure and went to take him out. Well it turns out his foot was stuck in the molding of the enclosure, it looks like he chewed it and then got stuck in it! He was bleeding pretty bad (it scared me because I've never seen a chin bleed before!!) They took him out and gave him medical attention and they all thanked me for asking to see him because if they didn't they probably wouldn't have noticed until later on that day and it could have been too late! I went in to visit him yesterday and he was 100% hoppin' around and loving me...I kinda wanna buy him I think he remembers I was the one that rescued him!!

Well, here's what I think. Go to visit him, act all cool about it. Say
"Y'know, I could take him off your hands, I'd be willing to pay __, because $300 is just too much, but I can promise you I'll give him a great home and he'll be super spoiled"

I agree with Tiffany, I would try to work out a deal- but tell them because you saved his life you deserve a deal, and they know he will have a great home!

$300 for a standard at a pet store is definitely OUT OF CONTROL!! I hope you are able to work something out. It sounds like he really needs someone like you!!!

They probably paid $25-$50 for him, so they might be willing to work something out if they are that kind of store.

So glad you were at the right place at the right time! Hopefully they fix the cage too.

I went to visit him today...his foot did not break (thank god) just a little cut...tried to get him to lower the price he said he'd think about it...I told him if I use him for breeding I might give him a good deal on kits. I have 2 mosaics 1 male 1 female...but they're too old for him he's tiny prolly 5 months old...mine are over a year now...If i do get him and use him for breeding it would obviously be a LONG time before I'd introduce him to my mindy. So striking a breeding deal with him would be bad....

You have to be USDA licensed to sell kits (or any animal) to a pet store. (At least the the best of my remembrance) and I wouldn't breed a pet store chin regardless, so that might be something you'd tell him but not that you should actually do.

Glad you were there to help out! I hope he finds a great forever home (hopefully with you!)

oh yeah Jinul, thank you for that reminder, you are right I checked that out...perhaps I can sell them privately to him if he decides to give me a deal...who knows I just want to say the right thing to get him to come down on the price....he's so cute!!!!

It's a good thing you pointed that out to them! I'm sure the little chinnie appreciated it :) You should definitely talk the price down though...$300 is waaaaaaay too much!
