This cage is very roomy, and the bar spacing is 1/2 inch which can be a baby safe cage without shelves, however the 2 front doors are kinda small, since our chins are pooping machines, LOL~ it will be hard to reach 4 corners when cleaning, I guess that's one of the main reasons members here highly recommend FN.

I have an aviary - bird flight cage. It's tall as well but as mentioned above, it is somewhat difficult to clean especially since you will be adding ledges and shelving. It will be hard to maneuver a vacuum hose inside of the cage without taking all of the shelving off first, so weekly cleaning will become a huge chore.

It looks like it would be pretty hard to clean, add toys etc., compared to the FN with the full opening front. If you wanted more room than the standard two-level FN, you could always add the third level (as long as you made sure to take precautions to prevent falls), but the two-level should be plenty big for a couple chins. I'm sure either cage would work, but I personally love my FN's and prefer them over any other cage.

Thanks for all the replies!!!

The one I have now has two smaller cage doors and I manage it okay.

I guess my two main questions are 1) Does it look sturdy enough? and 2) Does the vertical height compensate for a smaller length and width?

I always thought height was more important for chinchillas but I don't know how much more important it is...

I don't know who makes the cage you're looking at but my aviary is super sturdy. I have several wood shelves and ledges and perches and a chin spin and its in excellent shape. When my boys are going full speed on their chin spin, my cage does not shake or rattle. The vertical height is great for chins who love to hop and jump BUT you have to put something in the middle just in case they fall, or stagger the shelving/ledges, maybe even a couple of hammocks.

I am really torn. Which one would you guys go with????? I'm a poor college student and I've been saving money to buy my chins a new cage for a year so it is a really big purchase for me and I want to make the right decision.

Thank you :)

I just got the Ferret Nation and I love it... It is super easy to clean, and I am planning on getting a second chin. I will be able to keep them in the same cage. If they don't get along I can always use the divider... So far all my accessories have been easy to attatch to the cage. It is well made and has locking wheels for easy movement. Go with what you can afford. You are going to want loads of shelves later.

I got my FN price matched at local Petsmart from Kennelvet.com so I paid mine $156+tax, if you can do that it will cost you less than the other cage you're considering(thanks for all the info I got from this forum prior to my FN purchase). If you decide to go with FN and want to do price match, make sure you call your local Petsmart FIRST because not all of the stores will do price match for you(depends on the managers and some will tell you they only price match through their own website, well they're selling FN same price in store and from their website.) If whoever answers the phone and tell you they can do price match for you, make sure you write down the person's name, print out kennelvet.com's sales ad, and go to the store ASAP before the person gets off his/her shift there. Good luck! =^_^=
