Looks great! Since you spent so much time covering things for safety I want to give you two additional suggestions. First, that hay ball is an accident waiting to happen. Your chin will try to sit on top of it, and it's easy for a leg to get caught and broken. Additionally, that wheel looks too small for a chin. Wheels should be 14 + inches in diameter. Even if the wheel is big enough the spoke coming out of the middle is also an accident waiting to happen. Some chin safe wheels would be the chin spin from the quality cage company, or the silver surfer from chinchillas.com. Your chin will be fine without a wheel if you take the old one out while waiting for a new one. Again I do love the fleece, nice bright, cheery colors!

Thank you. I enjoy making things like this.)

I agree that the wheel is smaller than I'd like. It's 12''. As soon as I can afford the good one I'll be sure to get it. She sure doesn't think it's too small though. She's on it for hours at night.

As far as the spoke goes, I've heard this before but have never heard of there ever causing a problem. Can you show me? I'd sure love the information on it.

The hay wheel won't be sat on. It's about an inch from the top.

You're a real sweetheart for pointing these things out though.

Thanks so much!!!:wink2:

The wheel should be removed until you can get a proper one. That is a serious accident waiting to happen. I can't even count the number of tripods I've rescued that lost a leg because of getting it caught in the spokes of one of those wheels. We can sit here all day and find specific threads where someone is rushing to the vet and freaking out because their chin broke a leg in the wheel, or you can just take our words and experience for it.

12" wheels are too small and compress the spine painfully. She may "enjoy" running on the wheel but the long term effects to her health and well being are bad. As the responsible owner, you have to be able to tell her "no" for things that are unsafe no matter how "enjoyable" she finds them.

The fleece set looks great! I too especially love the colors and how you covered the ramps.

I agree with Brittany and Tab to what has been stated and it's always better to err on the side of caution than to have a terrible accident happen to your chin.

Your chinchilla can also get her head caught in the hay wheel which obviously is very dangerous.

The wheel is an accident waiting to happen. I have a chin spin and a flying saucer both very safe wheels and Zella got cough somehow on the chin spin and broke her neck. It was a freak thing. But just think what could happen on a different wheel...

But I do Love the cage set! Looks wonderful! :)
