Hello all! Please critique!

So to get our new chinchillas, wherever they may be, we are going to need to drive and bring them back to Flagstaff as there are no breeders in town. Either way, having a carrier is a good idea for vet visits and the like. That being said, I wanted to get a carrier that was both safe for a chinchilla or two to be transported, as well as east to store and carry. I decided upon this bad boy in blue (because we're hoping to get males)! This carrier came highly recommended due to it's wire mesh top that allows for you to look in, hang hay, etc.

The plastic bottom worried me, so I went to JoAnn's fabric store to check out some fleece. Because we are hopefully getting James T. Kirk and Scotty, I decided on some wicked cool Star Trek Fleece! I bought about 2/3 of a yards of it and some velcro attachments. I secured it to the sides of the carrier using velcro, then wrapped it around, and secured with another set of velcro. This makes two layers of fleece inside the carrier. I will lift one layer up and put a hand towel in there to absorb the pee. Using velcro also means that it will be easy to take off and throw in the wash.

I also cut hole in the fleece to allow for the hardware to connect. This was my first fleece project and I stayed as far away from sowing as I could. I know that many people out there could probably have done much better jobs (check out Classy 'Chillas and The Chinchilla Boutique) but I wanted to do something myself and also make sure the babies were definitely NOT going to chew on the plastic bottom. I wanted to wrap it fully and give space for hardware.

Here are the pictures of my first ever project. It's not great, but I love it!

It's fine, it should work with no problems. The only thing that you may want to do is remove the hay ball because baby chins could possibly get stuck in it. Those things always make me nervous. Put a few hay cubes in the carrier instead of loose hay, that will be a lot neater anyway. ;)

Edited to add...I love that carrier! That really does allow for a lot of air flow, that will be great for the car ride.
