ok so i had my chinchilla for 3 years, never really interacted with him, peted him a little, well i started to bring him out in the bathroom and he just sits there walks a little, i see videos of them jumping off walls and not poop everwhere, how come he poops so much?? and why doesnt he like to run and jump off walls??

He's terrified sounds like.. you really should not leave your chin caged up.. give him at least an hour to play.

sound like he just doesnt know what to do. keep bringing him out as often as you can and every time he will probably get a little more active. the more consistant you are with this the better he will be. so if only for 20 minutes, try and do it at the same time every night or whatever schedule that works for you.
some chins do not like interaction and he may just be happier in his cage but you should still try and get him out in case you need to get him out for the vet.
as for the poop........well there is no stopping that. i just gather it into a pile while we play and at the end of playtime go back and toss it.

When he makes those sounds it means he is asking for interaction. Playing with him more often will make him much more used to the bathroom as other people have said.

It might take a month or more before your chinchilla really feels safe being out of his cage. It also kinda depends on when you're taking him out to play, too. I noticed when I take my girls out to play and it's when they are normally sleeping, they don't play very much. But if I take them out when they are already excited, they play a bunch.

Sometimes my chinchillas poop a ton, and sometimes they only make a few poops. I got one of those little hand brooms and pan for cleaning up after my chinchillas in the bathroom (it's tile). It's also really helpful because they get their bath dust all over the place, which doesn't get sucked up in the vacuum.

And like saphire said, keep the lid of the toilet down!

When playing in the bathroom, remember to put the lid down on the toilet.

Excellent point! I made this mistake once myself :eek:ops2: One of my girls got loose, I finally cornered her in the bathroom, after almost 30 minutes. I reached for her, she jumped, and plopped neatly into my toilet. I was horrified! I laugh about it now, but I was NOT amused back then.

As for the playtime question, I agree that your chinchilla sounds scared and uncertain. Try allowing playtime at the same time each day and for only a few minutes. You can also combine it with other fun things like dust bath time or treat time. He'll get the idea soon enough.

Pooping a lot is totally normal. They are like tiny conveyor belts, food constantly going in, and poop constantly coming out. As long as his poops are not very small, or soft, then he is fine. Don't worry, you'll get used to it.

what happened to her fur?? im fine with him pooping, its my mom, she doesnt want him anywhere with carpet,
