I was taught by the breeder i got my chin from to hold her by the base of her tail. I'm guessing no chinchilla really likes this, but she really freaks out when i do it. When I was petting her I noticed she barks/squeals when I touch the base of her tail. Do you think she could be hurt there in some way? or she simply doesn't want to be touched there? Thanks!

If need be, I will pick mine up by the base of their tail but then I hold them in my arms. I've never had to keep holding mine by the tail, they are usually good once out of the cage. How long have you had her? Maybe she is still getting used to you and just dont wanna be touched or held?? Sorry I cant be of more help.

I hold my chin very close to me in a scooped position on one arm and then I will put one hand on the base of her tail.......shes never moved around to much that she was ever held my just her tail but it seems to work for securing her because just walking with her in two hands would put pressure on her ribs ....
a lot of chins just dont like the bum area touched so that may be why chin is freaky...
