Not sure whether to put this in Behavior & Anatomy or Health & Hygiene. I felt the bottom of my chin's lower jaw and it feels bumpy. It's hard to tell but it feel almost symetrically bumpy maybe. Is it excess root elongation I'm feeling or something normal?

Is the chin exhibiting any other signs of malo? (weight loss, loss in appetite, drooling, pawing at mouth)? Usually when the roots are so overgrown that they are growing through the jaw bone, other symptoms will have been present.

Chins do have a bump on each side of their jaw that could be confused for malo bumps by those who are inexperienced and have not felt actual malo bumps before.

She had gained a bit of weight, now she's lost about 10 grams and seems to be gaining slowly again (I'm not sure how accurate my scale is either so it's hard to say how much she's lost or gained). I recently bought her oxbow hay (I finished what she came with--pet store stuff) and she's been eating a lot more hay since she likes it better and thus, less pellets. This may be a reason she's lost weight but you never know. Other than that, no symptoms of malo.

I just burritoed her and felt her jaw more thoroughly. The bumps are definitely symmetrical and it seems like one bump on each side, far back where her last molars are or further (if that makes sense). I tried to look up pictures of chin jaws before to see if they had any bumps but couldn't get a clear view.

Thanks for the quick reply, Stackie. I feel a bit better.

Those are normal bumps, malo bumps show up mid jaw to back, frequently on the side of the jaw, they are different size and not usually symetrical.
