Maia will be five weeks on Tuesday, and even though we take her to and from school with us, I was wondering when we should move her downstairs to the chinchilla room. I was holding Ellie today and I smelt like her when I fed Maia and she sniffed me all over and squealed and I know she wants that companionship. Should I wait till she's six weeks, or should I do it for her five week birthday?

If you are still hand feeding her do what is convinient for you. If she is on her own completely she might be fine in the chinchilla room. I find often (not always) other chinchillas take very well to babies.

I've been reluctant to put her with her dad because he doesn't KNOW he's dad...and my other two girl are pretty feisty, and the only girl I would trust her with is sick right now and for some reason lactating? So I can't put her with her, so she would be by her self, but I thought that she might just enjoy the atmosphere of it all. :) I'm thinking maybe next week when she is six weeks old. :)

and he never will know he's dad. don't put the kit in with a male, or else you could end up with a very young and very pregnant chin. not a good thing to happen at all. 5 weeks is most likely too young to get preggers, but no sense in taking chances.

if a chin in your chin room is sick, then i wouldn't move Maia down there yet. actually, i'd move the sick chin out of the chin room just to be on the safe side, and keep everything disinfected well, both in the sick chin's cage and all the other cages.

That's why I didn't put her with dad, I would remove her at 7 weeks and that would just make it worse. A lot of people do put them with dad though...

Stormy's infection was noninfectious, she had a uterine infection. Once stormy is better (We are nearly there :) ) I do plan on introducing them, Stormy is SUCH a good mother and Maia is so desperate for another chin. :)

Responsible people only put male kits in with the father or any other male. Female kits are usually left with mom or are put in with other females.
