I had moved mom and kit back up into the chin room, and it seems as though momma is ignoring kit again. I picked up kit and she was freezing, so I warmed her up, and put a heating pad under the botttom of the cage so she can at least get warmth. I am beginning to think moving them from the secluded are may have been a bad thing.
How much weight loss is bad?
How much loss will I know momma isnt feeding?
How long does before I should step in and feed baby?
baby is currently tying to eat, and momma keeps running away, I feel so bad, and so lost. It is a wonderful addition. but this is why I got my male neutered. I stress a lot when it comes to these wonderful lives! Being a newbie, it just adds more for me. That is why I am thankful you all are here! Thanks again!

If Mom was O.K. with everything at the first location - move her back and see if things are better!
The kit will thrive and survive much better with uninterupted interaction from the mother!
They eat whenever they're hungry!
Some females take a week or three before they're secure enough with their kits to be put with another adult, especially a 1st time Mom!

babies should spend more time under mom than not under mom especiall the first few weeks.

In kits any weight loss is bad, they should not lose weight past the first day

if kits lose weight they are either not getting fed or there is an internal issue

when in doubt suppliment the kit. extra food will not hurt or prevent the kit from nursing but may be the difference between living or not

if mom is running away there is a problem. check her nipples for damage, make sure she didn't get scratchd or bit. if mom will not nurse there is some problem with her or the kit.

How is the situation now?
Is the kit suckling and warm?
Is the mother looking after it?

It is worth weighing the kit each day at the same time to see if it is gaining - the tail should be curly and the tummy should feel full.
Mum should be in a small enough cage to allow the kit to follow her without wasting too much energy - no shelves or nesting box Mum can jump up to and leave the kit.

all is well

She is up to 81 grams. She has gained 24 in 6 days! I guess the momma just wants her own time at night. I did put a heating pad underneat on low, so if she needs to warm up she can walk to that side of the cage. She is just so darn cute! Growing like a weed! Just thought I would update!

Shes 84 today! 28 in a week! Thank you all for hanging in there with me through my questions and concerns!

Now that is has been a week, will lianna start seperating herself from mom more also? I seen her walk to a different corner of the cage and fall asleep.

Glad everything's turning out O.K! Sometimes they get a little independant, but run back to Mom, immediatly! Just try to catch her!
