My chinchilla (Pixi) is about a month pregnat and while i was holding her today i noticed i could feel her ribs and spine, but her belly felt nice and plump. She's acting normal, but it seems like all the nutrition shes getting is going straight to her Kit(s). I put her in a square no level cage seprate from her mate (Frost). Frost seems perfectly healthy and i cannot feel his spine or ribs. Pixi gets pleanty of food and water (timithy hay included) as well as Treats daily (Raisins and Raw almonds). I don't want her or her kit(s) to suffer or die. I've had Pixi sience she was 8 weeks old and we have become attached to each other. She is literally my baby. Please someone help and tell me what to do!

Stop the raisins, stop the almonds. That's as good as giving a child candy bars every day. It's not healthy, it's not good for her.

What kind of pellet do you feed? How much do you give her? What kind of hay (brand) and how much? What kind of water do you use?

How old is she and how much did she weigh pre-pregnancy compared to now?

A little more information would be great so we can help you help her. There are some supplements you can give, but generally a healthy, good sized female shouldn't feel bony with a pregnancy. Generally a good quality feed and a good water supply should take care of it.

Peggy... if I don't get candy bars I'm never coming to your house!

Are you sure she's pregnant? That's the first question, and have you had her checked for parasites ( fecal? ) ?
