We had a cardboard house for Zipper. He tore it up so we bought a wooden one and replaced the cardboard one with that. Now he won't go into a house to sleep. He was sleeping on his wheel, but we replaced that with a saucer so he sleeps where the wheel was. We put the old cardboard box back in it at the bottom, and the wooden one at the top of the cage. He'll go in the top one to hide, and the same for the one at the bottom.

Is this healthy? Like healthy that he's not sleeping in a house? Any suggestions on how to get him back to sleep in his house?

Thanks!

He'll sleep where he wants to sleep...wherever he feel comfortable. It won't hurt him. Most of my chins prefer to sleep on their shelf or in their hammock instead of in their house.

If the cardboard one is no longer sturdy or is soiled, take it out.

There is no way to get a chinchilla to sleep somewhere...they will be where they want to be. that is normal and healthy

I love when they sleep on their wheels, very cute :) makes me wish my house was full of places I could sleep comfortably-just plop down anywhere and not have to worry about a crick in my neck :)

yup and sometimes they change where they have always slept and find a new spot!
i have even folded up smaller pieces of fleece to make a bed and they have slept on that.
make sure the wooden house that is on an upper level, can not fall down. they are pretty heavy and you dont want Zipper to get hurt!
