Homemade chin poo guard, is it safe?

Recently I've been thinking how to make a guard to stop most of the poo from being kicked out of the cage. I was thinking of using plexiglass, but is that safe if they chew on it?

No, it's not safe to chew on.

Definitely not safe. Probably worse than plastic because it is harder and would likely do more damage to the intestinal tract. Galvanized sheet metal or pieces of solid wood like pine would be safer if you want to make your own.

I've also seen people make fleece poo-guards as well that work pretty well

You might as well make a wooden shelf that has the guard attached. At least chewing it would be fine and serve a secondary purpose as well.
