Hi guys. I need help with my chin shopping. I'm going shopping for his hay, bedding, food, and possibly more treats today. All the brands i'm using right now is from the lady at petstore recommended me but i'm not sure if she really knows what shes talking about. Do you guys have a recommended brand for his food's brand?

Also, about the fresh food, someone said carrot is bad for him, but someone said it is healthy! So, who's right? What should I give him as far as fresh fruit or veggies concern?

Thanks

I heard oxbow is good but its not good to buy food from a petstore because it could be really old... Like it could have been sitting in a warehouse for a few years than on a shelf for a year

well then where should i get it?

Umm on here if you go into the classifieds there is a sticky with a list of sellers...
If not oxbow is good ive just heard alot better things about buying online from trusted people

You can order food from sellers on here - many of the suppliers sell feed. Oxbow, Mazuri, Tradition, Purina Advanced Rabbit Nutrition, Nutrena, etc. are a few good feeds. If you check the diet and feeding thread you can find some info and preferences from other people about what they like.

Dont give your chin any fresh foods. Their digestive systems are not adapted for it. All you need are good quailty pellets (with no treats in them), timothy hay and filtered water. As far as treats go, the best ideas are non frosted mini shredded wheats, old fashioned oats or dried rosehips. Even with those give in moderation and after 6 months is the general rule of thumb.

There are a lot of breeders in your area. I've fed Mazuri & Tradition over the years. Now I feed Nutrena 16% rabbit because our Traditions mill kept messing up. You can order Tradition, supplement & hay cubes from Ryersons Chinchilla Ranch in Ohio - the shipping wouldn't be much. They also sell dust - Blue Cloud & Blue Sparkle. Jan & Rich are great to deal with. You can order loose Timothy hay from Oxbow or Cleanmammas, just depend what your chin prefers - loose or cubed.

I think Volunteerchin covered the recommended pellet brands so, I'll just add another vote for no fresh veggies or fruits.
My chins dine on Tradition pellets from Ryerson, 2nd cut timothy from Kleenmama's, and get Ryerson supplement as a treat or an occasional rosehip(purchased at a health food place locally). For wood chew toys, you can't beat Pet Products by Nature. Bedding is kiln-dried pine purchased from a local farm store. Water is from the tap, filtered through a 3 stage PUR filter.
