Hey everyone! My name is Stephanie, I'm 20 years old and I live in Michigan. I'm getting my first chinchilla on Saturday and I am so excited! I've wanted one for almost 7 years so it is so exciting to finally be getting one! If anyone has any advice for my first chinchilla feel free to share ;]. Otherwise I'm really fun and friendly and I love talking to people, it would be fun to be friends with other chinchilly owners ^.^

Hi, welcome to CnH. Glad you're here! Do you have a chin picked out? Tell us all about it. As far as advice IDK, I guess I'd make sure I had a nice big cage, a Ferret Nation is great. No treats for chins under 6 months and really limit them after that. Getting a bonded pair is nice too, maybe you can consider that. Since you love to talk maybe you'll join us in chat. Theresa

Yeah I already have one picked out :]. They've been calling him Charlie-Chin but my boyfriend wants to name him Konkistador haha. He's beige and about 8 months old. He's harness trained and loves to run around in his big ball. He's been alone for most of his life so far I guess, but I plan on getting him a buddy soon - just looking around for breeders in my area. :)

Welcome Stephanie! :) We're glad you're here and hopefully you'll get some good information on owning your first chin.

Can I just start out by saying, please, please don't use a harness or a runabout ball for a chin. Harnesses can break ribs and spines, and runabout balls can cause damage to the spine as well as causing a chin to overheat and have a stroke. I am stunned that a reputable breeder would recommend either of those things for a chin in their care.

oh okay, thanks a lot. i don't know why either if it's a bad idea :[ i've never heard anything about a harness being bad - but i know that chins can overheat in the balls so i was already going to either not use it at all or keep him verrry monitored if he used it at all, but i don't plan on using it really anyways, we're just getting it free with him since he apparently loves it so much lol. but thanks a lot for the warning, i know not to use them now :]

Welcome to the forum. You should be able to find a very good Michigan breeder fairly easily. Take a look in the classifieds or the banners up top. I know jags and Becky are both in Michigan, and I'm certain there are others.

Hi and welcome to CnH!!

BTW, chinnies have been known to be addictive. :)

Hi Steph, I met you in the chat room earlier today! Can't wait to meet your new chin! The waiting would kill me!!! I am sure he'll be spoiled rotten! I was given a ball with my chin, and I tried her in it a couple of times before I learned how bad they are, and my chin just sat in it and soiled in it. I was happy to throw it away, although, Tunes has suggested in the past to make a swing out of the ball. Make sure you spoil us with pics when your baby arrives!

Hello Stephanie and Welcome! I also met you in chat today, and just so you know all the cool people are in chat LOL! Can't wait to see pics of your guy!

:welcomewagon:

All has been said about the harness and run about ball. Let me tell you, it so so much more fun to let the chinnie loose in a safe room with no wires, etc such as a bathroom and watch them leap and hop and act all crazy. If you sit on the floor, you become part of their 'jungle gym'. It is so much more fun for you and the chinnie than putting the chinnie in that ball.

Welcome to our group.

Konkistador is such a cool name! Two of my chin boys are "Liberatore" (Tore)" and "Salvatore (Sal)". Those are Italian names. Kind of similar to your chin?? Welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the forum! I can't give you any chinnie advice other than to say the forum has a lot of experienced owners/breeders that have valuable advice. Again welcome!

:welcome5:

Reading FAQs and asking questions is the best thing you can do for your new chin!

:dance3:

welcome welcome welcome to both you and Konkistador! lol.

hope to see pics and talk with you in chat!

tell us a bit about yourself too!
