hey fellow chin owners!!
so my male chinchilla, about 2 years or a bit older has been acting oddly lately..

in his cage, he has a hut on the second level.
its just made out of wood, with a hole it in. like this one exactly: http://pet.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pPETS-3760623t400.jpg

for the past two nights, i have woken up only to notice that he has knocked the hut off of the shelf and onto the floor level of the cage..

he loves it. (sleeps in it, sits on top..)

but for some reason he's pushing it off of the shelf--i dontknow how or why!

has anyone experienced anything like this before?

p.s. sorry for the long post!

I would either keep it on the bottom level or bolt it down on the top level.....he could hurt himself it if can fall off.

i am a new chin owner and have the same house. my 6 month old female is doing the same thing but hers is on the bottom level, she flips the lid off, and then flips the house over several times. she literally moves it everywhere possible on the bottom level. i need to find out how to stop that action, she does the same thing with her ceramic food bowl, and thats not too light weight either.

Chins will do that, always redecorating! lol

But she is right, you should keep it on the bottom level or strap it to the cage some how so he can't continue to knock it down, that's just asking for an accident.

I'm not sure how thick the wood is, but in the past I've screwed cup hooks into the backs of my houses and then used those to hook the houses to the cage bars.

k thank you.
and its so wierd because he's never done this till now! haha he's had the hut for about 2 months. :p i guess he's going through a creative stage hahah
ill be sure to move it down.

Agreed - sometimes they just feel the urge to redecorate! One of our boys has had one of those houses since we brought him home (last Oct), and just a month or so ago he decided to completely dismantle it - he was so proud of himself!

Yup, my chins have a wood house and it is very heavy and every morning for a week i would wake up and it was on the bottom of the cage. So I had to bolt it to the shelf. They do whatever they want!! :)

My chinchilla usually destroys the cage every night!! First she throws all of her hay out of the hay holder and it lands on the wood shavings. then she digs up all the wood shavings from the left hand side of the cage and puts it all in the centre of the cage. At this stage it is just a mess of mixed hay and shavings. Then she gets her heavy wooden house (How she does this I don't know-I think she squeezes in behind it and pushes it out) and pushes that out into the centre on top of the mound already there. She always looks so proud of herself and when I come to tidy u she looks at me as if to say "Hey! It just took me all night to get that done. Leave it as it is"!!!

Crazy chins!!!

Chins absolutely love to re-decorate. I have put bricks against things to stop it. Ha - what a joke. They move the bricks. They have such strength for litter critters

My boys move EVERYTHING. I also come down everyday to poo and hay all over the floor. I swear that they think it's funny when I have to clean it up everyday! They are my babies... they make me laugh.
