Hi guys, Im new to the forum so sorry if this is in the wrong section!

Im getting 2 baby MALE chinchillas on the 4th of december. Theyve been together at the breeder since they were tiny!

I saw someone selling a baby black velvet chinchilla, and I fell in love! I want to get it but Im concerned on how to introduce them...

All the chinchillas are babies. What should I do? Is it good to introduce them when their young? Thanks!

how old are these chins? Have you had chins before? Are they coming from reputable breeders?

If you get the black velvet, you'll need to do a 30 day quarantine before even thinking about introductions.

I'm getting my chins from Cheryl (If you know her) -very good breeder

I believe one is 6 months and the other is 4months. They've been together every time Ive visited them.

I will probably get a black velvet around that age from Richard Ryerson. (Big breeder)

These will be my first chins, but Ive done SO much research about them :) so I know about intro periods. Im just wondering is it any different for kits :). Thanks for helping !

i would suggest getting your two babies, getting used to them, learning all about chins (i've read many threads on this forum just to learn, including the breeding section, even though i never intend to breed chins). have just your two for a while, then decide if adding a third would be within your means. remember, every chin you add, you add potential vet bills into the mix on top of increased costs for feed, hay, bedding, wood, etc.

also, introducing a third chin to an already established pair may cause fighting amongst everyone, and that pair may not be able to live together afterwards due to aggression. then you'd have three cages, three separate playtimes, and have to spend three times as long doing everything for them.

I agree with Chinnymom. Being a first time chin owner, there is a lot to learn through experience.
It's great you've done all your research about them before you get them. Along with getting them from reputable breeders.
Start with your first pair, see how things go. Reading is much different than experiencing. You'll figure out if you have the time and funds to manage more than 2. If you feel later down the road you still want another addition than go for it.
You will see many chins that you'll want hahaha. We all do that. You should see my I want list hahaha.

Well I've had a ton of contact with them this is just mY first time having my own. I will probably get the black velvet. What age should I get it? 4-6 months? Which one? And do you think ill be able to put them all in the same cage because they're kits? Ill most likely get them all on the same day.

I'm a new chin owner too. I have two little girls, one of them is also a black velvet. There is so much to learn, I'm having trouble keeping up with two of them! One of them likes attention really late at night, the other likes the morning. One of them will come jump in my hand, the other will run. It's hard just trying to bond the two of them and get them used to me, I couldn't imagine having to do a quarantine and figure out 3 personalities right away. I think being a new chin owner, it might be a little much. (At least for me it would be)

Well, they are all at least 1 year old on the website. So I contacted him , and he has several babies between 4-6 months old. I'm going to go visit them soon :)
